Community guidelines
This works because people trust the food and the person handing it over. These are the rules that keep that true. Breaking them gets a listing removed; repeat problems get an account banned.
- Rule 1
Home-cooked or home-grown
Everything on Friends of Foodie comes out of a home kitchen or off your own farm, ranch, coop, hive or garden. No reselling restaurant takeout, no repackaged retail goods, no commercial catering.
- Rule 2
Nothing alcoholic, nothing medicinal
No alcohol, no cannabis edibles, no supplements or anything sold as medicine.
- Rule 3
Say what's in it
List allergens honestly and use the dietary tags accurately. If someone asks what's in a dish, answer them. A wrong 'Gluten-Free' tag can put someone in hospital.
- Rule 4
Keep photos real
Post pictures of the food you actually made. Stock photos and images pulled from other cooks get taken down and can cost you your account.
- Rule 5
Handle money and hand-off yourselves
We don't process payments or collect addresses. Agree on cash, Venmo, or whatever works, and arrange pickup, delivery or shipping in the chat.
- Rule 6
Treat neighbours like neighbours
No harassment, no discrimination, no spam. Report anything that crosses the line and a moderator will look at it.
Food safety, briefly
Cook to safe temperatures, keep hot food hot and cold food cold, and don't sell anything that's been sitting out for hours. Keep eggs, meat and dairy chilled and tell buyers when they were collected or processed. Cottage food laws, and the rules for selling eggs, meat and dairy, differ by state and county — check what applies where you live before you sell regularly.
